Sustainability Strategy

Our Sustainability Strategy, named WM Porohita, focuses on carbon neutrality by 2050, waste minimisation, biogas capture, and creating a great workplace while partnering for innovative, sustainable solutions.

WM Porohita

Our Promise: Let’s take care of it, Mā tātou katoa e tiaki
Our Purpose: Your partner in safe collections, recovery and disposal

WM New Zealand's Porohita (to be circular) Sustainability Strategy is focused on addressing climate change through proactive measures and voluntary reporting aligned with Aotearoa New Zealand Climate Standards.

Recognising climate-related risks and opportunities in our supply chain, we integrate climate response into our strategic decisions.

Our governance framework, overseen by our Board, Audit and Risk Committee, and Sustainability Advisory Panel, ensures robust risk management. We assess physical risks at all sites using the worst-case RCP 8.5 scenario, highlighting our commitment to understanding extreme climate impacts.

With science-aligned targets, we aim for carbon neutrality by 2050, driving transparency and continuous improvement in our climate initiatives.
