In the next of our series profiling the wonderful women who work at Waste Management, Operations Supervisor Tracey Rossle talks about her role at the Papakura Transfer Station.

What’s your job in a nutshell?

I manage the Papakura Transfer Station. We supply a service to the general public, as well as municipal trucks. My most important job is to make sure all my staff are safe on site and go home to their families each day, while earning a decent wage.

I believe as a good manager you should lead from the front. I have worked hard at understanding each aspect of the business from the weighbridge, through to the pit, to the landfills. I have all my wheels, tracks and rollers licences and am happy handling the weighbridge as well as driving all the loaders and diggers on site. I can help and jump in anywhere across the whole operation to keep the business running smoothly.

What is the biggest challenge in your role?

Keeping on top of all the aspects of running a complete business from a safety, efficiency and profitability position, while keeping up very good relationships with everyone involved.

What is the biggest reward in your role?

Being acknowledged by my regional manager on the accomplishments of the transfer station getting better each day, while the staff are all happy and proud to work there. Meeting targets and doing what I say I will is the biggest reward to me personally.

What are you passionate about outside of work?

I am a very goal orientated person and put all my energy into what I do... but saying that, I have recently started a hobby in fly fishing and find that being out in the open backwaters with my partner is very uplifting to the soul.
