To mark International Women's Day, we are profiling some of the wonderful women who work at WM New Zealand. Today we talk to Operations Supervisor – Napier Recycling Stacey McKinnie.
What’s your job in a nutshell?
I look after a small team of five and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Napier recycling branch. We sort recyclables (cardboard, paper, plastics 1&2, tins, aluminium and glass). We then ready the product for either export or local sale.
What do you find most challenging/rewarding about your role?
The most rewarding part of my role is the learning. I am constantly learning new things, from the operations side to the recycling world. Recycling is an exciting area to be working in, no one day is the same.
The most challenging part of the role is dealing with the unexpected. Could be a breakdown of one of the machines or equipment, to sudden changes with the exporting. Though plans are all in place for these unexpected changes, it can still throw the day off track. Luckily we are a small team and can work through these challenges and learn for the next time it might happen.
What are your passions outside of work?
My family. My partner Samm and I have two boys, Henry (13) and Archie (9). We love exploring the Hawke's Bay. Whether it’s jumping on our skateboards or bikes and exploring on wheels, or discovering a new unexplored walking track.
