To celebrate International Women's Day, we are profiling some of the wonderful women who work at Waste Management. Meet Tenders Manager Carla Bradley.
I help Waste Management secure new business. This can be either municipal contracts with local councils, or large commercial business contracts. A big part of my job is explaining the capabilities of Waste Management – our comprehensive recycling, our Technical Services division that treats waste before it can be safely disposed of, our modern, engineered landfills – that capture over 95% of landfill gas to destroy it or convert it to electricity to feed into the national grid, our industry leading health and safety. We do an amazing job and I’m very proud to be a part of this business.
I juggle multiple tenders and multiple deadlines all the time. The tricky part is to find the winning formula and the right solution to solve the client’s waste and recycling problems as well as sustainability targets.
I am very privileged in being able to interact with a huge cross section of people and divisions across Waste Management. I work with the municipal teams, commercial, MD and CFO, general managers, pricing teams, legal, health and safety. Everyone is very passionate about what they do, and it’s wonderful to understand and appreciate their roles.
I have been training for a charity boxing event, which is scheduled for the end of March. It’s one of the hardest things I have ever done, both mentally and physically.
All proceeds from tickets sales are going directly to a charity called I AM HOPE https://www.iamhope.org.nz/who-we-are, which supports mental health initiatives for young people. Someone very close to me has suffered with mental health problems, so I’m really pleased to be involved. The charity is also especially relevant with today’s climate of COVID-19, people losing their jobs, suffering financial worries, and healthcare systems overwhelmed. It feels good doing something challenging to give back to those who need it most.
I’m fortunate that my dad has his own boxing gym in Howick and has been coaching boxing athletes for years, so I get personal one-on-one advice!
