We’re making changes to the general waste residential service in Nelson to make it safer and more sustainable.
From the week beginning 4 September 2023, our driver will no longer be entering your property to collect your bin. Instead, please leave it kerbside by 7.00am on your collection day. This will make our collections safer and more efficient for both you and our drivers.
To make your service more sustainable, we will also no longer be providing single-use plastic bin liners. These are unnecessary and we can collect your waste without them.
This makes collections safer for you, our drivers, and other road users. This will reduce vehicle movements and the risk of accidents as our trucks no longer need to enter and exit your property.
We do not need a bin liner to collect your general waste. By removing this single-use bin liner we are making your service more sustainable by removing thousands of plastic bin liners from use. If you want a more sustainable alternative, you can place newspaper in the bottom of your bin after each collection.
No, your collection day and frequency and payments will remain the same. We have provided these additional services free of charge.
Place your bin away from any trees, power poles or parked vehicles. If there is nowhere safe to place your bin, contact us and we’ll find a solution.
You may be aware that Marlborough District Council (MDC) is introducing rates-funded kerbside waste collections for most households. This will take effect from 1 July 2024 and will include general waste, mixed recycling, and glass.
You can check your address on the Marlborough District Council website.
Yes, we will be offering a new fortnightly collection, alternating weeks to the council schedule.
Unfortunately, no - you will need to keep or order a new WM bin.
You don’t need to do anything. We’ll cancel your service from 24 June and be in touch about your final collection and bin removal. If you wish to cancel before then, you can contact us here.
If you have prepaid or are owed any money on your account, this will be refunded to the bank account or credit card you last used to pay. We’ll aim to do this by end of June 2024.
We’ll email and text you about your final collection and bin removal dates. Be sure to check your junk email or contact us if you have changed your mobile number.
Please leave your WM bin kerbside and empty, after your final collection. We’ll aim to remove it within 10 days.
You can cancel your service with us at any time. If you wish to cancel, please submit your request here. We’ll need 30 days’ notice to process any cancellations.
